Robotics Training Facility

Client: Alabama Industrial Development Training (AIDT)

The project is unique in that of all of the places that leading Robotics manufacturers could have selected, they chose Alabama. Over the past ten years the state has focused on drawing key international industrial manufacturers to Alabama as part of its’ workforce and economic development initiative. Located across from Calhoun Community College, students and the work force benefit from training at the institute which houses robots from the world’s leading robotics developers. The state’s vision is to provide an educated work force to help the multiple companies that use robots, serving as an economic tool. In essence, impacting the areas of education, business and industry and economic development.
Also of interest, The facility is LEED Gold, currently only 8 buildings in the state of Alabama have this status. The site contains bio-swales for collecting parking lot storm water, a constructed wetlands for handling detention and retention and an underground cistern for collecting rainwater for irrigation. The native landscaping materials were selected for their hardiness and minimal water usage. The facility itself is an educational tool that promotes sustainability with informational signage located throughout the premises. The three building complex aims to attract companies on the forefront of technology and rival facilities more commonly found in countries like Japan, Sweden, and Germany. The goal is to help elevate Alabama’s status as a leader in robotics technology and training.
The state-of-the-art complex is located on US Highway 31 across from the Calhoun Community College campus. Students will benefit from training in an institute which houses robotic and automated systems from the industry’s leading robotics developers, and guidance from instructors from around the world.
Phase 1 has a glass, steel, brick, and zinc panel facade and features energy efficient construction designed to some of the highest standards set forth by the United States G
