Kickstand Projector

Client: bem wireless

Since replacing the slide projector in early 1990 the LCD projector has become the standard method of image projection worldwide. Although there are dozens of products to choose from and a variety of performance specifications available, aesthetically they are very similar. BEM Wireless requested a design that would magically convert from transport mode to “in-use” in a few simple steps. The design intent was to create a user experience unlike any other projector. The Kickstand portable projector has accomplished this with its innovative form and intuitive user interface.

The Kickstand is an LED based projector that is small enough to fit in your briefcase yet powerful enough to project a wide screen image up to 90 feet. The projector is comprised of an aluminum-banded frame with an integrated stand and handle surrounding a molded plastic body featuring a soft-touch polyurethane coating. When closed all controls and connection ports are protected by the surrounding frame.

The name Kickstand is taken from the leg that pivots out from the frame to support the projector in its opened position. Intended for use in both professional and home environments, this unique form redefines the way we think about large heavy projectors by introducing a thin lightweight projector. The projector is controlled through a remote that doubles as the lens cover. It easily opens by pulling on the “kickstand leg” which supports the projector in an upright position. Once the leg is extended the projector body can be adjusted to any projection angle.
